I want to take you on an adventure to the land of the best writers in the entire world! British Literature is the cornerstone to understanding all Western Literature—and it’s a class your high schooler can’t do without. British Literature & Writing, a one credit high school English course, can be used at home or with a homeschool co-op.

You and your teens can make a pot of tea and whip up a batch of scones to set the stage while you have a blast reading, writing, and discussing the greatest literature ever written besides the Bible. Time travel begins with Beowulf and Canterbury Tales and moves forward to Pilgrim’s Progress, Robinson Crusoe, Pride & Prejudice, and more beloved works. Along the way, students will learn about British history, too.

Students Will ….

  • Read & discuss great works of literature in a book club setting
  • Learn an overview of British History
  • Read Poems and Plays Aloud

Students Will Write….

  • Flight to Israel Tales (after reading Canterbury Tales)
  • Epic Poem (after reading Beowulf)
  • Victorian Poem
  • Sonnet
  • Allegory (after reading Pilgrim’s Progress)
  • Essays

  • “The Second Nun’s Tale” from Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer
  • British Nursery Rhymes
