This is our fourth year enjoying SchoolhouseTeachers.com‘s Ultimate PreK-12 Annual Membership. So much more than homeschooling online, we download courses to print and use or try out video courses. With access to World Book, RightNow Media, parental support, and even homeschool planners, we are truly blessed! We watch family videos, try out unit studies, and stay on a continual adventure discovering brand new things on the site. There is so much to use in our home school!

The first time I went on to the SchoolhouseTeachers.com site, I was overwhelmed. It is HUGE! And there is so much I really like! How to see everything?

I recommend starting out on the START HERE tab. This page explains the layout of the site and lets you know that all courses are listed by subject and by grade level. There is also a Scope and Sequence feature that tells us parents what children learn when. It’s a helpful guide!

Customer service by phone or online chat is available Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and, of course, you can email any questions, too.

I like being part of the SchoolhouseTeachers.com Community Facebook Group.

I reviewed SchoolhouseTeachers.com over the holidays so I went looking for Christmas stuff and was not disappointed!

Christmas Corner

I really enjoyed Christmas Corner over the holidays. We enjoyed “Decorate the Christmas Cookies” that gave my grandsons handwriting practice and lots of fun decorating cookies!

While I was there, I discovered “Fun with Trains Preschool Activities that I earmarked for later. Covering letters, shapes, colors, and numbers, I know my grandchildren will love it!

I love the unit study Cranberry Christmas with poems, stories, crafts, and recipes!

Courses

My favorite sections are the history and geography courses. There are just so many! It feels like I’m a kid in a candy store. Are you a history and geography buff, too?

Check out history courses HERE and geography courses HERE.

Some of the history courses include:

  • Classical Archeology
  • Civil Rights Movement
  • American History in Picture Books
  • Drive Thru History: Ancient HIstory
  • Drive Thru History: American History
  • Fashions in History
  • History of Air Travel
  • Medieval to the Renaissance: High School History
  • Understanding Ancient History
  • They Lived for God
  • Lapbooking Thru the Ages

Some of the geography courses include:

  • Trek to the Holy Land
  • Let’s Visit Denmark
  • All About Maps
  • Wonders of the World
  • A Splash of Geography
  • Everyday Explorers: Canada
  • Living Geography
  • Geography of the Bible
  • Asia: Trade Route Safari

I even have a geography course I created for SchoolhouseTeachers: Let’s Visit Denmark, a unit study on the country that gave us Danishes, Hans Christian Andersen, and Viking history!

Speaking of being a lesson designer, I also created a middle school health course, Understanding Middle School Health. Each lesson starts out with a story and students follow the same family throughout the year as they encounter dehydration, broken bones, Grandpa’s heart problems, and good health practices.

Lesson Plans

Each course page looks like this.

When I want to check out the course, I start by looking at the Course Outline and More About This Courses by just pressing on the buttons.

If it looks like something we would benefit from, I view the lesson plans–a quick overview of what to do when. I love this!

Next I read through the lesson plans and can download them if I want to or just go to the SchoolhouseTeachers.com site and use online. The options are endless!

Video Library

I have to come clean. Our family loves videos! We love to watch a good story!

The Video Library is one of our favorite parts. My grandsons love Donkey Ollie and the Torchlighters series. Yes! They have the wonderful Torchlighters series as well as many Bible story cartoons.

But that’s not all!

You can learn almost anything in the video library. Art lessons, Latin, Spanish, sing language, film making, accounting, starting a business, drum lessons, geometry, chemistry–whew! Just too many subjects to mention. You can watch these videos any time you want to! Just stream online!

School Boxes

Curriculum boxes, or school boxes are also available. If you want to just grab a collection of courses that work for your children’s grade level–curriculum boxes will work perfectly for you!

The planning and choosing is all done for you! And of course, you don’t have to do everything–just do the courses you want to. Or substitute out. You are never locked into a certain course with SchoolhouseTeachers.com.

Literacy Center

This is one of my favorite parts of the site. As a homeschool publisher and homeschool co-op leader, I have often helped parents whose children have learning challenges.

The Literacy Center focuses on reading. From general tips to specific strategies, it covers the following stages of literacy:

  • Pre-Readers
  • Emerging Readers
  • Early Readers
  • Growing Readers
  • Fluent Readers

I really appreciate the questions to help kids grow in reading comprehension. If you have a struggling reader, or just want to grow fluent readers, check out the Literacy Center!
